Developed from the previous generation flagship model, the 2021 MTR 8.9 gets some upgrades and updates to improve what was already an unbeatable package and which now looks incredible in its new stealthy, dark grey colourway.
The new 2021 Boardman MTR 8.9 Mountain Bike is built on a new 29er platform which is both slacker and longer than its predecessor. The 8.9 features Rockshox 35 GOLD RL forks with 150mm of travel which is paired with a Deluxe Select+ rear shock for serious off-road performance. The 2021 model now comes with a dropper post and brakes have been upgraded to 4-piston SRAM Guide T which offer powerful and controlled braking in all conditions. The 8.9 has been upgraded to NX Eagle meaning the drivetrain now gets an even bigger range (11-50T) as well as a total of 12 gears. The new MTR 8.9 is built on 29 inch thru-axle wheels which give fantastic stability and smoothness. They come wearing a set of tubeless-ready Maxxis Minion tyres which give fantastic grip regardless of how wet and muddy the trails become.
Spec to push you
The spec of the 2021 MTR 8.9 is designed to support a rider as they start to push themselves and make the most of what the British and Irish trails can offer. Powerful 4-piston brakes not only help for sudden stops but also for metering out power on controlled technical descents. The dropper which has been added to the 2021 model means you can get the saddle out the way to shift your weight where it’s needed and the upgraded NX Eagle means you’ve got a serious range of gears at your fingertips with a high quality shift feel. Rockshox 35 Gold RL forks really come into their own when you hit rougher terrains, maintaining grip and offering excellent controllability.
New 29er platform
Sitting on 29-inch wheels for the first time, the 2021 Boardman MTR line-up have been designed as a range of trail ready bikes which feel composed and sturdy through British and Irish singletrack. With 150mm of fork travel and 145mm in the rear the MTR 8.9 is ready to soak up rough terrain. The 66 degree head angle is a degree slacker than the outgoing model and reach has been increased across all sizes to make for a longer, more planted bike.

As a ‘used’ bike, we are happy to offer a 3 month in-house warranty from the date of the sale against manufacturing defects (crash damage and general wear and tear not included).
